The architecture of Paul Rudolph (Elkton, Kentucky, USA, 1918\u20131997) is characterized by an intense exploration of form, structure, and light. His work seeks a complex and rigorous spatial organization, in which volumes interconnect, and geometry defines the spatial experience. Rudolph understood architecture as a balance between the material and the spiritual, in which structure had to be expressed with honesty and clarity.<\/p>\r\n
Mondrian\u2019s influence on Rudolph is evident in the pursuit of precise geometric composition and in the importance of the relationship between plane, line, and volume. Although their languages differ greatly, they share interest in order, formal pureness, and the influence of geometry to structure perception. In this context, light and white become central elements. The Modulightor Building (1989\u20131994) synthesizes this idea.
