Manifesto

Manifesto

Founded in 1985, Santa & Cole is an independent editorial for lighting, furniture, art, and books based in Barcelona, Spain. Editing is a practice rooted in the act of seeing — looking at the world and giving form to an idea so it can be shared, while protecting authorship and standing by its virtues.

With an aesthetic that leans more modern than futuristic, we favor restraint over ostentation and place our own judgment above passing trends. From spectacle to substance: if objects can be read, it’s because they have something to say.

When those stories interweave, the sum of voices becomes a polyphony. Our catalog is a construction where elements of different functions and eras come to recognize one another, forming a coherent whole. It is understood as an opera aperta: a material culture that evolves without losing its moral essence.

These are slow-cooked products, made with a sense of permanence and attentive to detail, designed to be passed down from one generation to the next. Seen through eyes that find exception in the seemingly simple. It is about valuing the quality, warmth, and comfort that emerge from the balance between craftsmanship and industry.

To soften the noise of the world and make us feel a little more at ease, a little happier. Well-being, at peace.

Draft for an editor of crafted works. Notes from a Saturday meeting, December 10, 1983.
