Carmen Galofré. Fall in New York

Upon arriving in New York in October 2023, Carmen Galofré encountered a scenery that sharply contrasted with the Mediterranean landscapes she typically works with, where the outline of iconic buildings intertwined with the dazzling city lights.
Despite the visual difference in the subject matter, Galofré was able to paint the essence of the Big Apple through subtle traces that portray skyscrapers enveloped in blueish and cream tones without losing the essence of her signature style. Galofré’s New York series reflects the artist’s refusal to think about the world in bipolar terms. She sees painting as a meeting point between figuration and abstraction, a cosmos where different pictorial languages intertwine to conform a personal, Mediterranean gaze.
