London, 1943

After having worked for Ettore Sottsass at Olivetti in Milan, Jane Dillon (née Young in 1943) set up a studio in London in the early 70s with Charles Dillon. In their beginnings, their work was highly influential particularly in the field of office seating and domestic lighting. Since 1973, Jane and Charles Dillon became the British representatives of Spanish furniture companies Casas and ICF. They also began to design their imaginative furniture and lamps for Spanish companies, like the «Cometa» lamp (1972) for Disform, edited today by Santa & Cole, the office chairs «Actis» and «Jobber» for Casas, or the lamp series for BD and the Vinçon store in Barcelona.

After the death of Charles Dillon, Jane continued as the head of the Dillon studio, specializing in exhibitions and in designs for private clients or for big companies, including Herman Miller, Kron, Perobell, Habitat or Thonet.

Jane Dillon and Tom Grieves have been working together since 1998, and Studio Dillon opened in the late 90s a new studio in Girona (Spain), together with Roger Bateman, under the name BDG. Their projects are concocted in a workshop, responding often to a new material or technology, and tightly related to mass production. Some of their latest creations include a collection of office chairs for Casas and seating for Lloyd Loom of Spalding. Jane Dillon is also a product design lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London. www.vesselgallery.com/SML/studio_dillon
