Carmen Galofré. Fall in New York

Galería Santa & Cole is delighted to present Fall in New York, a solo exhibitionby Barcelona-based artist Carmen Galofré (Minnesota, 1959). The exhibition showcases a body of work she painted during the time she spent in New
York last autumn.

It includes both original pieces and Neoseries, Santa & Cole’s art editions, which  makes the simultaneity of the display in Barcelona and New York possible.

Carmen Galofré and the nuances of light

Carmen Galofré seeks to capture the nuances of light in every painting. Through her rich but airy brushstrokes she depicts the intensity of light and its effect on landscapes and cityscapes, conveying her fascination for this phenomenon.

Throughout her career she has been inspired by Mediterranean colors to create a harmonic palette where whites, ochres and blues converge to create compositions with depth and vitality. For Carmen Galofré her paintings are a silent dialogue with mystery which reject the transient contemporary artistic trends.

Fall in New York

Upon arriving in New York in October 2023, she encountered a scenery that sharply contrasted with the Mediterranean landscapes she typically works with, where the outline of iconic buildings intertwined with the dazzling city lights. Despite the visual difference in the subject matter, Galofré was able to paint the essence of the Big Apple through subtle traces that portray skyscrapers enveloped in blueish and cream tones without losing the essence of her signature style.

Galofré’s New York series reflects the artist’s refusal to think about the world in bipolar terms. She sees painting as a meeting point between figuration and abstraction, a cosmos where different pictorial languages intertwine to conform a personal, Mediterranean gaze.
