Juli Capella

Juli Capella, (Barcelona, 1960) studied design at the Escola Massana and received a degree in architecture from the ETSAB in Barcelona. Until 1997 he worked in collaboration with Quim Larrea, with whom he founded the magazines De Diseño and ARDI, and created the Primavera del Diseño biennial and curated the industrial design collection for the Barcelona Museum of Decorative Arts.

He has been responsible for the Design section of the Italian magazine Domus, is a frequent contributor to the newspaper El País and, more recently, for El Periódico as well. He has published several books, including Diseño de Arquitectos en los 80, Nuevo diseño español, Arquitecturas diminutas, Oscar Tusquets Blanca, Enciclopedia. Capella has curated solo shows on Philippe Starck, Achille Castiglioni, Ingo Maurer, Oriol Bohigas and Óscar Tusquets, among others, and exhibitions on themes such as "Arquitectura a Catalunya", Barcelona in "Les capitales européennes du nouveau design", or "Diseño Industrial en España".

His architectural works include the seafront promenade in Vilaseca, Tarragona, two entertainment centers –Zig-Zag in Murcia and Heron City in Barcelona– and the Hotel Omm in Barcelona. Capella received an honorary mention at the Spanish National Design Awards in 2000. He is was the president of the FAD (Foment de les Arts Decoratives) between 2001 and 2005, the organization promoting the Year of Design 2003.
