Biographies
Leonardi, Cesare
Cesare Leonardi (1935-2021) and Franca Stagi (1937-2008) were two architects that specialised in industrial design in Modena between 1963 and 1983. Their designs feature in leading design publications and form part of the permanent collections of prestigious museums. They were also known for their use of photography as a means of documentation, inquiry and communication. Between 1970 and 1980 the focus of their studio was architecture: parks and collective spaces whose design involved an intimate relationship with trees and green spaces.

Stagi, Franca
Franca Stagi (1937-2008) and Cesare Leonardi (1935-2021) were two architects that specialised in industrial design in Modena between 1963 and 1983. Their designs feature in leading design publications and form part of the permanent collections of prestigious museums. They were also known for their use of photography as a means of documentation, inquiry and communication. Between 1970 and 1980 the focus of their studio was architecture: parks and collective spaces whose design involved an intimate relationship with trees and green spaces.
The Architecture of Trees is a botanical masterpiece. It contains over 550 quill-pen drawings of 212 tree species, with and without foliage, to a scale of 1:100. Inaddition, it offers a study of shadow and colour, providing a new perspective on each of the species. This historical study, now in Spanish, is a standard forarchitects, designers, botanists and all those with a fascination for nature and trees.
Created by Andrea Cavani and Giulio Orsini, founders of the Cesare Leonardi Architectural Archive, this book illustrates the outset, development andadvances of Cesare Leonardi and Franca Stagi’s research into trees.
