Figueras, Lourdes
An Art History degree graduate from the University of Barcelona, where she wrote her thesis Hospital de Sant Pau aproximació a una lectura ornamental, she specialised in the work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner. She is an active cultural manager, curator of several exhibitions on architecture and Modernism; author of articles in specialised journals and monographs dedicated to this figure; director of the Historic House Museum in Canet de Mar (1991-2005) and, finally, director of the Lluís Domènech i Montaner Foundation.
True to the adage of his era, “the beautiful and the useful”, Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1849-1923) integrated all of the arts into a boundless repertoire of forms, lines and colors. The result was a unique architectural program that consolidated a language and aesthetic models, setting the foundations for modern design. This book traces his work and thought through numerous articles and offers an analysis of his extensive ornamental program. It also compiles his most outstanding designs in glass, wood, iron, stone, hydraulic flooring, mosaic and ceramic, masterfully executed by his collaborators, to whom the author also renders tribute.
